Welcome To Nelmar Terrace

While one of the smaller neighborhood associations, Nelmar Terrace has its original 1913 boundaries, which are naturally formed by the water on the east, San Marco Avenue to the west, Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind to the north, and both sides of May Street to the south. It is truly one of those old fashioned sidewalk and front porch neighborhoods, where the neighbors know and look out for each other. Its large canopy of live oaks, with its distinctive row of planted palms along Nelmar Avenue that end at a waterfront pocket park, is the setting for this old historic neighborhood.

Developed between 1913 through the Florida Boom Period of the 1920s, and later during post World War II, Nelmar Terrace has a fine collection of houses in many distinctive styles from Mediterranean Revival, Georgia and Dutch Colonial Revival, Craftsman /bungalow, to the Moorish Revival pink castle on May Street. These houses were home to many of St. Augustine’s prominent residents in its past. In 2011 it was designated as a National Register Historic District because of its architecture and the importance of its residents in the community. It continues today as a very desirable neighborhood to put down roots.

The Nelmar Terrace Neighborhood Association works hard to not only protect this beautiful old neighborhood from non-residential encroachment but to strengthen the friendships within the neighborhood through social events. We value the experience of our longtime residents and welcome newcomers to this unique and special neighborhood.
